The authentic artisan espadrilles
The espadrille is a simple shoe, made up of two pieces in cotton canvas and with an esparto or hemp sole, it is still an affordable option and highly recommended for the summer.
It is difficult to know from what time the espadrilles date, it is believed that their origin became popular in areas close to the Pyrenees, documents written in Catalan are known around the year 1322, where the espardenyes are described.
The esparto grass, hemp or jute comes from a very fibrous herbaceous plant, cultivated for centuries for the production of ropes, baskets, or as in the case of espadrilles, the floors.
Little has changed in the design of the espartras or espadrilles, basically made up of esparto grass, rubber and canvas and cotton thread, simple and very natural materials, resulting in fresh and comfortable slippers.

The manufacturing process begins by joining the esparto grass yarn, this is done with machines that interlock the yarns, until the braids are achieved.
Then with the esparto braids, we proceed to assemble the floors on a special table, for each size its corresponding measure is used.
Once the floors are assembled, we proceed to sew them, so that they acquire their final shape; As is traditional, espadrilles lack the difference between the right and the left foot.
The esparto floor is then vulcanized with a rubber sheet, thus increasing the resistance to wear and humidity. First the rubber is introduced and then the esparto floor, by means of heat and with the pressure of the mold, the rubber is attached to the floor. This is the end of the sole manufacturing process.
Now the two pieces of cotton canvas are cut, which make up the upper part of the espadrille, each one is cut separately from the same fabric roll.
It only remains to join the canvas pieces with the esparto floor, this process is done by hand, obtaining an artisan product.
The toes are reinforced with several stitches, to increase the resistance of the espadrilles.
Not all espartras are the same, only when you have used, authentic espadrilles made in Spain in an artisan way, with an esparto floor, you discover the difference. Our espadrilles, have the distinctive that accredits and recognizes, the origin and the artisan nature of products made by companies and artisans from La Rioja.
